All Natural Bug Spray

ESTABLISHED 1856

After a relatively mild winter, the bugs are out in full force. Now bugs are par for the course when gardening, but being eaten alive my mosquitoes and no-see-ums while trying to enjoy being outside is no fun. With mosquitoes being carriers for diseases such as West Nile Virus and Zika, it can also be a little more serious, so we should try to prevent being bitten whenever possible.

I found a great off the shelf bug spray that I’m excited about – and I did not receive a sample to try. The company doesn’t even know who I am or that I’m writing a post about it, so I’m sharing it with you today because I’m that enthusiastic about it. It’s called All Terrain Natural Insect Repellent. They use essential oils in a soybean oil base, with no scary filler ingredients that are hard to pronounce, and most importantly – no DEET. And it works. I’m one of those people that gets plagued my mosquitoes whenever I even think about leaving the house, and this is the first time in years I’ve found a spray that is actually effective. And I don’t need to worry about spraying scary chemicals all over my skin (and my importantly, my son’s skin) in order for it to work. It is a little spendy, I’m not going to lie. But for effectiveness, ease of use, and peace of mind, I think it’s worth the price. They also make sunscreen and natural first aid items, though I haven’t tried those yet.

If you’d rather DIY than buy, Wellness Mama has a recipe on her site for Homemade Bug Spray that is essentially the same, except she uses witch hazel instead of oil as the base. Either way, essential oils are safe and effective and have so many great uses – including keeping bugs away so you can enjoy the great outdoors!

  1. Thank you for the recommendation! I too get eaten alive no matter what products I use…not only is it a health concern, but I hate having big welts that eventually leave scars all over my legs. I will give this one a try! I definitely don’t want to miss out on any of our outdoors time this summer. 🙂
